Taryn Thompson has been a dancer all her life. She started dancing young, but took a break for other sports, and came back to it as a 5th grader. She felt behind, so she put in long hours at her studio in Minnesota attending regular classes (tap, ballet, jazz, hip hop, lyrical) also dancing on the competition team. She then, tried out for her high school dance team and made Varsity High Kick as an 8th grader. For the next 5 years, a huge portion of her life was dedicated to dance team; 3 hours of practice a day and weekly competitions. Along with that, she would attend clinics, camps, and special classes to expand her knowledge. From there, she danced for a semi-professional football team and taught young girls ages 3-13 at the YMCA. She has extensive choreography experience in tap, hip hop, jazz, ballet, high-kick, pom, lyrical, contemporary, and even musical theater. She's ran multiple dance camps, shows, and recitals. After moving to Wayne, she knew she needed to stay involved in dance some how. She had heard there was an opening as coach for the Wayne She Devils. She jumped at the opportunity and was co-coach for her first year then head coach for two years. Her college experience came to an end, and she started a corporate job in Minneapolis. Something was missing and after discussing things with her family, she decided it was time to follow her dream, so there began the adventure of creating the Wayne Dance Company. The Wayne community and surrounding communities have been nothing but supportive and amazing towards this dream. Because of this continued support, the WDC staff, and wonderful dancers it now continues to grow and prosper.
